Stanardsville
Stanardsville might be a small town, but it more than makes up for it with its rich history and spectacular views. Located in Greene County, Virginia, less than 45 minutes away from Charlottesville and a little over two hours to Washington, DC, Stanardsville residents don’t have to go far to enjoy big-city amenities.
Stanardsville was founded in 1794 and named after the Stanard Family, a prominent local family who originally owned the land the town was built on. When Greene County was created in 1838, Stanardsville became the county seat. The original courthouse is still in use today and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Two historic Stanardsville homes, Beadles House and Powell–McMullan House are also on the registry, as well as the Stanardsville Historic District that includes much of the downtown area.
Many Stanardsville homes offer wide views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah National Park. Stanardsville is just a short drive from Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway, the scenic road throughout the national park all the way to Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. Shenandoah National Park has miles of trails and hiking paths, making it a perfect spot for outdoors and wildlife enthusiasts.
