Palmyra

A Slice of History Along the Rivanna

Palmyra is located on the James Madison Highway (U.S. Route 15) due south of U.S Route 250 and Route 64. The town runs along the eastern bank of the Rivanna River
and is a short drive from the Lake Monticello subdivision. Fluvanna County High School, one of the oldest consolidated county high schools in Virginia, is a short drive past the park via the Thomas Jefferson Parkway (U.S. Route 53).

Palmyra is home to a number of sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Among them is Glen Burnie, a two-story home designed by General John Hartwell Cocke Jr. Cocke served as a brigadier general in the Virginia Militia and was a long-term associate of Thomas Jefferson.

Room for the Whole Family

Lake Monticello lies west of Palmyra along the Rivanna River. It is centered on a lake of the same name and is part of the James River watershed. It was developed as a summer vacation community in the 1960s but evolved into a gated residential community and a part of the greater Charlottesville area. It is now the site of over 2,700 homes occupied by a vibrant, diverse set of residents.

Homes for sale in Palmyra and Lake Monticello are predominantly single-family homes measuring several thousand square feet, and homebuyers will be delighted to find multiple waterfront properties, a rarity in central Virginia. Boat owners also have the advantage of private docks. Most of the Palmyra homes feature spacious decks and patios, screened porches, and two-car garages.

All the Wonders of Nature Just Down the Road

A major advantage of living in the Plamyra/Lake Monticello area is the proximity to Pleasant Gove Park, which lies just west of the Rivanna River. The park is home to over 20 miles of trails, and between the river and the nearby forests and fields every habitat of the Virginia Piedmont is represented. There’s a spectacular variety of wildlife, wildflowers, and trees to be observed, as well as multiple educational opportunities, among them a tree identification trail and a new bluebird nesting trail.
