A Jewel on its Own
Barboursville homes may be convenient to Charlottesville and Albemarle, but it’s no mere suburb. It has a rich, vibrant culture and is a major hub of tourist activity. Four County Players, Virginia’s longest continuously operating community theater, was founded in 1973 and since then has performed seasonal productions, organized an Employment Experience Program, and engaged patrons to sponsor programs for young thespians and technicians. Through a partnership with Barboursville Vineyards, they staged Shakespearean plays at the Barboursville ruins from 1990-2006. Barboursville Vineyards itself is at the vanguard of the Virginia Wine culture and has been recognized with a host of honors for its vintages. Octagon, their signature red wine blend, won gold medals in 2018 at the Virginia Governor’s Cup and the Texsom International competitions.
